Configuring Sam Spade

1. Select the Edit menu item, then select Options...
2. Select the Configure tab
   • Default Nameserver - set the internet nameserver Sam Spade uses for most name lookups
   • Maximum simultaneous connections - 100 is plenty
   • Your email address - this is used for email relay checking
   • Your ISPs webserver - used to keep a dialup connection alive
3. Select the News tab
   You only need to configure this section if you plan to check for usenet cancels
   • News Server
   • Username, Password - if you need to enter a password to access your newsserver, enter it here
4. Select the Advanced tab
   These three are potentially dangerous tools to enable. Be sure you understand the issues with them before you use them.
   • Enable zone transfers - enables DNS Zone Transfers
   • Enable active probing - enables port scanning
   • Enable relay checking - enables checking for an insecure mailserver
